AQUAILA SHENE: As a playwright, Aquaila burst onto the scene i n December 1996, with the premiere of her critically acclaimed stage play, “My People, My People”. Presented at the historical Madame C.J. Walker Theatre in Indianapolis, IN, and featuring Malik Yoba, ( Cool Runnings, Fox-TV's New York Undercover ), “My People, My People” was well-received by local audiences. Given a 3 out of 4 star review, the premiere was reviewed by the Indianapolis Star and a host of other local newspapers. This dynamic presentation demonstrates that this up and coming writer has the ability to truly entertain; as well as, arouse the social-consciousness of audiences by providing a forum for theatergoers, provoking discussion on cultural issues relevant to the African-American community and American society.

Multi-talented in her expression, Aquaila also has explored the gamut of writing through her poetry, teleplays, short stories and music videos. She is most known for her tantalizing poetic piece, “Make Love To Me Over Some Jazz”. To date, Aquaila has performed in various venues across the U.S. , opening for such personalities as motivational speaker, Iyanla Vanzant. Her style of poetry sets the pace for literature that is both rhythmic and intellectually stimulating. Aquaila is currently promoting her debut spoken word CD, “In Search of Self” , the inspiration for “Give Me The Mic!”

Aquaila received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Purdue University . It is at Purdue where Aquaila wrote her first short stage play, “The Condition” and began to study the craft of playwrighting.
